The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the first edition and the host nation was Uruguay. Uruguay was awarded the first World Cup to celebrate the country's 100th anniversary and because Uruguay had won gold at the Olympic Games in 1924 and 1928. The tournament lasted two weeks, from July 13 to July 30. A total of 13 countries participated in the tournament and all matches were played in Montevideo, which had three stadiums available. Uruguay won the World Cup in their own country by beating Argentina 4-2 in the final. During the final, two different balls were played. The first half was played with the Argentine ball and the second half with the Uruguayan ball.
